O-Zone was a pop group made up of Dan Bălan, Radu Sârbu, and Arsenie Todiraş (aka Arsenium). The members were born in Moldova, NOT Romania. I know there's usually a bit of confusion there; They were born in Moldova NEXT to Romania, but eprformed mainly in Romania. They mainly played eurodance music and are famous for the single "Dragostea din Tei", which was also performed by Haiducii, a notable summer hit which reached Number 1 in the singles charts of many countries during 2003 and 2004, and Number 3 in the United Kingdom. The follow-up single "Despre Tine" had similar success across Europe.

Despite its multi-platinum status in Europe, O-Zone never even scraped the bottom of the charts in the United States. An English recording of "Dragostea din Tei" was released in early 2005, under the title "Ma Ya Hi". "Ma Ya Hi" was performed by Lucas Prata and Dan Bălan on the New York Today Show on February 22, 2005. Nevertheless, "Ma Ya Hi" did not prove to be a hit, peaking only at #72 in March on Billboard, although it was certified gold for 100 000 download sales.

The group was also rumoured, in 2005, to be representing Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest. However, these rumours proved not to be true as the group didn't take part in the Moldovan pre-qualifiers (Arsenie Todiraş was, however, a co-representative of Moldova during the 2006 Eurovision contest, competing under his new moniker Arsenium).

In 2005 the group split up (sadly). All of the members went their separate ways and started their own solo careers. It is debated whether O-Zone is the original creator of the song. An Italian group named Haiducii (meaning hajduks, or "The Outlaws") claims the song as its own, as both groups released the song about the same time. However, Haiducii had claimed that the lyrics were written by Dan Bălan.
(MY OPINION: I think Haiducii stole the lyrics. But that's also my obsessive side backing up solely O-Zone xD)
Dan Bălan was the leader of the former boyband O-Zone and the lead singer of his new band Balan, a rock project. He was born on February 6th, 1979. He is the composer and writer of many songs, including O-Zone's big hit 'Dragostea din Tei'.

Dan was born on February 6, 1979, in Chişinău in Moldova, in the Soviet Union, where he lived until his father moved the family to Tel Aviv in 1995 for business reasons.

He made his first stage appearance on the TV show "Semaforul" at the age of nine, around the same time that his parents bought him his first instrument, an accordion. He later enrolled at a performing arts high school to take private accordion lessons, graduating in 1994.

In 1992, Dan turned his attention to rock music after receiving a guitar as a gift and began writing his own songs, which he first began performing at school talent shows in his senior year. It was during high school that his music first received national attention, when one of his songs was premiered on his mother's television program.

Dan continued to write after moving to Israel and began making his first studio recordings, but eventually returned to Moldova to finish Moldovan lyceum "Gh. Asachi" and apply to law school. While at college, he received an invitation to perform with a local band called "Pantheon". Although Dan's entry into the group was well received by the band's audience, conflict eventually arose between him and the lead singer when Dan began inserting his own songs into the band's concert lineup. Dan eventually left Pantheon and formed his own group, a six-man heavy metal band called "Inferialis". In January 1997, Dan decided to become a professional musician and left law school for St. Neaga Music College, where he studied composition and contrabass and piano performance.

His first professional solo single, "De La Mine", was released in October 1998, followed by "Dar, Unde Esti", which went on to become the No. 1 single in Moldova that year. In September 1999, Dan teamed up with former "Inferialis" lead singer Petru Jelihovschi to form the boy band O-Zone. The two men soon officially moved the band to Romania, where they recorded their first group single, "Timpul Trece Fara Noi". The song was a huge success and paved the way for O-Zone's ascent to the rank of most popular band in the nation.

In June 2000, O-Zone released its first album, "Dar, Unde Esti", which included eleven songs, all composed and performed by Dan. The album had a huge success. seven singles from the album became mega-hits including "Fiesta de la noche", "Crede-ma", "Te voi jubii", "Ciao bambina", "In doi'", "Dar, unde esti", "Tripul trece fara noi".

The same year in summer O-Zone started the first tour in Moldova.

In December Dan wrote a Christmas song called "Sarbatorile de iarna" for the Christmas release of the "Tanti Ludmila Show" with Ludmila his mother and Mihai Ciumcium today known as Dj Mahay. Since then this song has become a national song for Christmas and New Year Festival and was played everywhere during this period in Moldova.

In spring 2001 Dan decided to go to another level and chose the Romanian market. However his partner Petru was not so interested about Dan´s big plans, he thouht of his performance in the band more as a hobby. So Dan needed to find someone else who was as serious about this as he was, so Dan and Petru split up but remained friends.

After that Dan searched and found two new members, Arsenie Todiras (aka Arsenium) and Radu Sarbu. This combination of O-Zone remained for 4 years, and they scored their famous hit "Dragostea din Tei". O-Zone split up in January 2005.

After that Dan decided he wanted to do rock. He relocated to the US, and along with Igor Buzurniuc (formerly of Zdob si Zdub) formed the rock group Balan. Once in a while, Dan still performs as part of O-Zone.     (Info gathered at wikipedia.org, although it's not even there anymore x_X)

Arsenium was born on 22nd of July, 1983 in Moldova, Chisinau city. He wasn’t a spoiled child, but he grew up in a very harmonious surrounding. His mother worked as a doctor, his father as an engineer. He has a younger sister, who is, as he declares “the best in the world!”
Although growing up in a country which is the poorest in Europe nowadays, he enjoyed his childhood.
“My beautiful parents allowed me to have big dreams. Bigger than the country I was born in.”
His parents gave him the chance to decide his way of life all by himself. “They let me decide by myself what to do with my life, but the advises they gave me have always been very useful to me.”
Arsenium was always known as a big dreamer. His biggest dream
was to become a big musician, someone whose songs should
build up the musical history. “When I was a child you could hear me singing at school, at home, in the bathroom, always and everywhere, trying to imitate different singers that I used to listen to!” Most of the music he was listening to was Russian. “I grew up with Russian music. At that time I had just only one fan, my little sister.”
He started to write his own songs when he turned 15 and it pleased him so much, that he couldn’t stop. “I realised that only that way I could express myself, my feelings in the real life! I understood that there is a place for me and my dreams in this world.”
Arsenium tried to confer the way he wrote songs to his real life. “I started to build up my life the way I create a song.
Then started the life of my dreams like a beautiful melody.”
At the age of 16 Arsenium was involved in a Moldovan folk
band named “Stejareii” (the little oaks), playing the
contra-bass. In that time he started to perform on the biggest stages of Moldova. But his first performance as a singer was at school. He tried to sing opera, more or less successful. “It seemed so funny to me, so I began to laugh on the stage together with my classmates.” Arsenium still describes this situation as the craziest thing he ever did.
When he was 17 he started to take singing lessons. His teacher
was Larisa Shulga, who became a very important person in his life. She taught him the most important knowledge an artist has to have. “She taught me a lot of things about music and she shared with me her experience as an artist because she was
a very famous opera singer in the whole ex- USSR”
In the teaching units she discerned his talent and introduced him to Dan Balan, who invited him to become a new member
of “O-Zone”. After a few weeks the composition of the group was completed by Radu Sirbu. The new band became very successful in Moldova and after conquering the Romanian market, they gladdened whole Europe with their biggest hit. “O-ZONE gave me a very good experience. I travelled a lot with the guys all over the world, I slept less night than ever but I felt really good.” He felt good with his two colleagues who were very talented
artists and “very nice and friendly persons”.
But now Arsenium is ready for his next big step.

"ARSENIUM is how I am, how I feel, how I live and what I do!"

Radu was the oldest member of the former Boyband O-Zone.

Radu spent most of his childhood in his hometown, however, he moved to Orhei and Bălţi for a time. He went back to Peresecina after the 9th grade in order to finish high school. During the 10th and 11th grade, he worked as a DJ at his father's nightclub, and organized musical theatre shows through his studio, "Artshow," which he created for children and teens. In 1996, after graduating, he began his studies at the Chişinău Music Conservatory, as well as teaching vocal classes for children on the side. People soon started thinking that after Radu Sarbu joined the boyband O-zone, that he was a transsexual. But no one knew for sure. But now he lives in Rome with his beautiful wife and daughter.

In 2001, a man named Dan Bălan was holding casting calls for a band to be called O-Zone. O-Zone used to consist of just Dan and his friend Petru Jelihovski, but even after Petru dropped out, Dan still desired to continue his musical career - hopefully with two others. Arsenie Todiras had auditioned successfully, then Radu joined to become the third and final member. As a group, O-Zone became extremely popular in their home country of Moldova, and were able to branch out to their neighbor, Romania. What came after defined the height of their careers: with the release of two chart-topping albums, Number 1 in 2002 and DiscO-Zone in 2004, they found themselves constantly played on the airwaves throughout Europe, and became fans of many listeners.

O-Zone's dance-pop music consisted of beats and catchy lyrics, able to surpass any language barrier. As Radu himself said, their songs have "positive emotion" - it really doesn't matter if you can't speak or understand Romanian, you just "feel the love" in the music. O-Zone later became well known in France, Italy, Germany, Romania and the UK. Their most popular hits included Despre Tine and the popular Dragostea din Tei. Later, Gary Brolsma of New Jersey made an internet video dance to the song Dragostea Din Tei. Gary's internet video helped the group become known in America.

(I despise Gary; sure he made Dragostea din Tei known, but everyone started liking him instead of O-Zone who made the song in the first place!! Not to mention his newest video, a.k.a the "New Numa," COMPLETELY destroyed Dragostea din Tei with his retardedness >__<; O-Zone's WAAAYYY better than Gary. GARY. SUCKS. GOT IT MEMORIZED, PPLS?!(Whoot, Axel quote xDD)

January 2005, Dan, Arsenie, and Radu announced that they were leaving O-Zone, deciding instead to focus on their respective solo careers. With Dan in America making rock music with his band "Balan", and Arsenie launching in Germany under the name Arsenium, many people assume that Radu will also be engaging in solo projects in the near future. More recently, he worked together with DJ Mahay and released a song called Dulce, and he's working on getting his Official Website up at RaduOfficial.com.

Radu is currently married, and had a daughter named Anastatia Dalia. Radu is still friends with Arsenie Todiras who let him sing on his new album.     (ALL INFO GATHERED AT WIKIPEDIA.ORG)
